We’re back with another interesting episode of The Bombay Journey, and this time we have renowned casting director Mukesh Chhabra with us. With a long list of blockbusters to his credit, Mukesh Chhabra recently ventured into direction with coming-of-the-age romantic movie ‘Dil Bechara’, an adaptation of ‘The Fault in Our Stars’. While Chhabra continues to excel in Bollywood, the popular casting director opened up about his early struggles, rise in Bollywood and his equation with ace filmmakers like Hansal Mehta, Rajkumar Hirani, Anurag Kashyap, Nitesh Tiwari and others on The Bombay Journey.
One of the busiest man in Bollywood, Chhabra, was all praise for Ayan Mukerji’s ‘Brahmastra’ and talked about how long the casting continued for the filmmaker’s ambitious project. But what grabbed our attention was Chhabra’s shocking revelation about Aamir Khan’s blockbuster movie ‘Dangal’. Talking about the project, Chhabra revealed that Aamir and director Nitesh Tiwari auditioned nearly 14,000 female actors for the sports drama.
“During ‘Dangal’ we auditioned around 14,000 female actors all over the country,” Chhabra said. Furthermore, during the conversation, Chhabra continued, “For ‘Dangal’, actual wrestlers had also auditioned and they were in the top six (shortlisted). Plus, they already had short hair and knew wrestling but in the final round when things came down to performance, Sanya and Fatima killed it.”
