Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda Starrer ‘The Archies’ Is Too ‘Western’ For Desi Fans? Zoya Akhtar Clears The Air

Dubbed the next generation of Bollywood, Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda and Khushi Kapoor are all set to debut in Bollywood in the Zoya Akhtar directorial The Archies. Suggested by the name itself, the Netflix film is based on the iconic Archie comic. Apart from the three popular star kids, more faces are making an entry into the industry in the upcoming venture.

Due to the popular star kids attached to the project, it has already gained hype as fans are excited to see them on the screen for the first time. However, criticism follows fame and The Archies is no exception. When the promo was released, many pointed out that despite being an Indian adaption of the popular comics, there were hardly any elements in it that a desi fan could relate to.

In an interview with Netflix India, director Zoya Akhtar seemed to have set the records straight as she said, ”We have set it in the Anglo-Indian community in India and can’t wait to transport you to the magical, fictional town of Riverdale”. It is now clear that we will get to see a fusion of Indian-American culture in the upcoming venture.

More in the interview, the director also talked about getting the opportunity to helm the project which has been a huge part of her childhood. She told the CEO of Archie Comics, Jon Goldwater, ”It’s been an absolute honour to be asked to make an Indian adaptation and the first-ever film for this very iconic Archies franchise. This is a surreal experience since Archie Comics was a part of my childhood. It is super exciting to take these beloved characters and introduce them to a new generation but still keep the nostalgia of the original comic alive”.
