Sony’s 'Madame Web' Will Bring Back Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, This Set Photo Has Fans Convinced

While MCU fans are excited about phase 5 and 6 announcements, new updates and fan theories about Sony’s Spider-Man films continue to make headlines. Recently a set photo from the upcoming Sony film has fans speculating the return of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man from the early 2000s.

Madame Web is Sony’s biggest Spider-Man project which is being filmed currently. Set photos of the lead actress, Dakota Johnson have also gone viral on social media in the past few weeks. The photos show her walking on the streets in a stylish red leather jacket, which is also Madame Web’s iconic coat.

Not much is known about the plot, however, new pictures from the set have revealed that the film will be taking place in the early 2000s. Around the same time as Tobey Maguire’s first Spider-Man was set in. The images also indicate how the movie might have a significant connection to Tobey’s original Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy.

In a tweet from @silverxsable, the Twitter user noted how one of the newspapers reading “bravest pulls girl from fire.” Fans are now wondering if it is in reference to a scene from Spider-Man 2 in which Tobey can be seen saving a young girl from a burning building. For the unversed, Tobey’s Peter at the time had given up on being Spider-Man after having troubles with his powers.

Many others shared photos from the sets and pointed out how it’s similar to original Spiderman films.

While the makers are yet to confirm any details about the films, the photos have many excited to see where it might lead. Madame Web hits theaters on October 6, 2023. Apart from Dakota Johnson’s film, some of the other Sony projects in development are There’s Kraven the Hunter, Venom 3, El Muerto, Morbius 2 and more.
