Shah Rukh Khan's Fans Flood Twitter With 'India Awaits Pathaan' Trend Amid Boycott Calls and We’re Here for It

One of the most concerning trend that has emerged online, after the life-threatening social media challenges ofcourse, is the ongoing boycott calls on Bollywood films. From digging up old statements of actors to scouring through their past to point out anything that can be deemed problematic, netizens working as a force behind this trend are bent on boycotting the entirety of Bollywood if they had the power to do so.

After Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan, the next victim seems to be Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming action drama Pathaan also starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. It was not long before #BoycottPathaan gained momentum on social media.

Amidst the boycott trend flaring on the internet for Shah Rukh Khan’s forthcoming film, the 56-year-old’s remarks from 2015 resurfaced on the internet adding more fuel to the fire. As per BBC, during a press conference in Mumbai in 2015, the actor spoke up about the ‘growing intolerance’ in India. ”There is intolerance, there is extreme intolerance… there is, I think… there is growing intolerance,” the veteran actor opined.

This gave netizens another reason to further the trend on social media and possibly, bring Pathaan to its downfall similar to Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha. However, this time, Shah Rukh Khan’s fans were prepared and did not leave any stone unturned to defend the superstar. Amidst boycott calls, fans flooded Twitter with ‘INDIA AWAITS PATHAAN’ as they expressed anticipation to watch the film in theatres next year.
