Salman Khan To Ranveer Singh; Bollywood Actors Who Were Called Out For Making Ridiculous Sexist Comments

Be it your workplace, movies, TV ads, day-to-day life or even with your family, casual sexism is very much prevalent in society. Bollywood is notorious for sliding sexist jokes and comments on screen and off-screen as well. Several big names in Bollywood have casually made offensive sexist jokes and though there would be no circumstances. However, netizens caught on to their statements and called them out on the internet. From Salman Khan to Ranveer Singh, here are some Bollywood actors who received flak for making sexist comments.

1. Salman Khan

While promoting his film Sultan, Salman Khan spoke about the fight scense and compared the experience of shooting for the film to a woman being raped. He said, “When I used to walk out of that ring, it used to be actually like a raped woman walking out.”

Twitter users quickly called out the actor and trended hashtag #InsensitiveSalman. Although, the actor did not apologize, his father Salim Khan took to his Twitter issued an apology on his behalf, saying, “Undoubtedly what Salman said is wrong, the simili, example and the context. The intention was not wrong.”

2. Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh was embroiled in controversy as he made his first appearance on the talk show Koffee With Karan with Anushka Sharma. Singh could be heard asking Sharma “Hey, you want your ass pinched? I’m right here.” Sharma was left visibly shocked by the statement and told Singh to not talk to her like that.
In the same interview, Ranveer also talked about Kareena Kapoor Khan and said that he went from “child to boy” watching her in a swimsuit.

3. Mukesh Khanna

Mukesh Khanna aka Shaktiman faced criticism for posting sexist remarks about a woman asking for sex. Mukesh posted a video on his YouTube channel titled, Kya aapko bhi aisi ladkiya lubhati hain? In the controversial video, the actor can be seen saying, “When a girl tells a boy, ‘I want to have sex with you’, then she isn’t just another girl, she’s running a business because no girl living in a civilised society would say such things.’

4. Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar found himself on the receiving end of netizens wrath as he passed a sexist comment on the show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, in 2017. He could be heard telling Mallika Dua, “Mallika ji aap bell bajaaiye, main aapko bajaata hoon.” Mallika’s father Vinod Dua also called out Kumar while the actors wife, Twinkle Khanna intervened and later apologized.

5. Ranbir Kapoor

In a recent interaction, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were seen discussing why they are not promoting their film Brahmastra extensively. In the video, Alia had said, “We will do it (promote the film extensively). If you are asking why we are not phailoed (spread) everywhere… right now our focus is…” when Ranbir Kapoor interrupted her and he looked at Alia’s belly and said, “Well, I can see somebody has phailoed.” After receiving backlash on Twitter, Ranbir apologised for his statement.
