Meghan Markle Calls Out British Press; Reveals ‘They Call My Children The N-Word’

Meghan Markle’s recent interview with The Cut has brought more attention to the British press and the Royal Family. The Duchess of Sussex also went on to reveal why she refuses to share pictures of her children with the British press. Meghan added that she hated having to share family photos with the same British media outlets whose readers called her “children the N-word.”

Meghan revealed that when she was still an active Royal member she was expected to share pictures of her now-3-year-old son, Archie with the Royal Rota, which is the press pool that covers reportage of Queen Elizabeth II and her line of succession. However, she refused to do so knowing how the British media and the readers treated her.

Meghan further explained, “Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my child before I can share it with the people that love my child? You tell me how that makes sense and then I’ll play that game.” The former actress has been open about the racism she had faced from British press and the backlash she had received for joining the Royal family.

Talking about the toxic tabloid culture, Meghan didn’t think it was good for her to join social media. However, the couple Meghan and Harry did share an Instagram @KensingtonRoyal with Prince William and Kate Middleton. She revealed that they did not have any control over the account and finally decided to make their own.

Markle also shared that she was “happy to leave the UK” and settle in any of the commonwealth countries to break free from their life in Britain. She told the portal, “Anything to just… Because just by existing, we were upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy. So we go ‘Okay, fine, let’s get out of here. Happy to.'”

This is not the first time Meghan has opened up about her experience in the Britain and it often does not sit well with many Twitter users. Others spoke in support of the Duchess of Sussex. One user said, “The hate comments on my Meghan Markle post are so manic and unhinged I had to mute the conversation. Racism is alive and well. Misogyny is alive and well. Jealousy is alive and well.”

The former star, undoubtedly has been through a lot of changes in the last few years. From joining the Royal family to stepping down after backlash and giving birth to two beautiful kids. If talking and sharing her experience is how she heals most should let her be, as she told The Cut- ”When the media has shaped the story around you, it’s really nice to be able to tell your own story.”

Meghan does make a point of keeping her kids away from the British press being a viable way to protect them. She has faced racism in the UK and it is very much alive around the world, she only hopes her kids won’t have to.
