Harry Potter fans were in for a treat when the cast and crew members of the team reunited for a special 20th anniversary celebration earlier this year. While ‘Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts’ turned out to be a huge success despite mixed reviews, it was author J.K. Rowling’s absence from the event that raised a lot of eyebrows. And with the internet flooded with several speculations related to the established author’s absence, J.K. Rowling finally broke her silence and revealed the truth in a recent conversation with Graham Norton.
Talking about her absence from the reunion, J.K. Rowling on The Graham Norton Radio Show said, “I was asked to be on that and I decided I didn’t want to do it. I thought it was about the films more than the book, quite rightly, that was what the anniversary was about. No one said ‘don’t come’. I was asked to do it and I decided not to.”
While the renowned author’s transphobic statement have landed her in a couple of controversies over the past few years, many even speculated it to be one of the reasons why she wasn’t a part of the reunion.
On the other hand, the Harry Potter franchise which is based on Rowling’s novels, is lauded as one of the most successful franchise in the history of cinema. While the Harry Potter earned billions at the box office, a prequel spin-off series titled ‘Fantastic Beasts’ continue to entertain the audience.
