The new episode takes place six months after the premiere when Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock) was named heir to the Iron Throne. While the premiere episode gave Rhaenyra one of the biggest positions in Westeros as the heir to the throne, she is immediately stripped of the pride when she returns to serving wine to the small council members in episode 2. It also introduces the audience to a unnoticedfew new characters and the importance of the ones seen before, and yet the plot has not been set for the big battle or for season 1. The show is in the midst of setting the world and it leaves very little for the audience to root for.

The council is most concerned about the Crab Feeder, a powerful figure in the Free Cities disrupting the Stepstones’ sailing and shipping routes. Lord Corlys Velaryon whose ships are getting destroyed wants the King to lend aid but King Viserys and his Hand, Otto Hightower. Rhaenyra suggests riding with some dragons to claim the land for the Throne but her very serious and viable suggestion is dismissed and she is asked to perform other duties of the Throne.

Meanwhile, The council returns to urging the King to take another bride and produce heirs. However, the options he is presented with even makes King Viserys uncomfortable. Lord Corlys Velaryon offers his 13-year-old daughter while Otto Hightower conspicuously sends his 15-year-old daughter Alicent to spend time with the King.

Deamon has been in hiding since he was not named the heir to the throne by his brother. Months later, he finally makes his presence known in the Dragonstone with the former members of his City Watch, aka gold cloaks, after having fled with a Dragon egg. When Ser Otto fails to reclaim the egg, Rhaenyra shows up with her Dragon to retrieve it. By doing so she makes a mark within the small council as a worthy member but also earns trust from her father.

Rhaenyra owes it all to Alicent who has been working on both sides trying to mend her relationship with her father. Her actions do not go unnoticed, as the episode ends with King Viserys choosing her as his bride.
