Former Indian Space Research Organisation scientists-Dr. A. E. Muthunayagam, Director – LPSE, ISRO; Prof. E. V. S. Namboothiri, Project Director – Cryogenic Engine; D. Sasikumaran, Deputy Director – Cryogenic Engine- held a press conference to debunk the recently released movie Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.
The movie is based on former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan and the movie was written, produced and directed by R. Madhavan. Scientists have claimed that 90% of the matter shown in the movie is false and defames the space agency.
The former scientists said that Nambi Narayan claimed to be the father of several ISRO projects which were not true. As per The Hindu, they said, “We are forced to tell the public certain matters as Nambi Narayanan has been defaming ISRO and other scientists through the movie Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, and also through television channels. His claims that he is the father of many projects is false. He even claimed in the movie that he once corrected A P J Abdul Kalam, who went on to become the Indian President. That is also false.”
The researchers spoke about a scene in the movie where Narayanan claims that his arrest had caused a delay in India’s acquisition of cryogenic technology. They debunked the claim and said that ISRO started working on cryogenic technology in the 1980s under the direction of E V S Namboothiri. The makers of Rocketry: The Nambi Effect have yet to respond to these claims.
I wish @isro released an official statement to clarify – not because Nambi Narayanan is popular and suffered injustice but many Indians and foreigners are watching the movie and they will believe the story. pic.twitter.com/xwv6O1LY5n

The movie followed Nambi Narayan’s arrest in 1994 when he was falsely implicated in an espionage case and was in custody for 2 months. The charges against him were dropped by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 1996.
