‘Doctor Strange 2’ Is Not The End For Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch And Here’s Proof

Elizabeth Olsen has been playing Wanda Maximoff for eight years. She made her debut with Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014. She finally got her solo project as the Scarlet Witch with WandaVision series on Disney+ followed by the leading role in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness. However, the end of the film left fans worried about Olsen’s future in the MCU. The studio is yet to give a clear picture about Wanda’s return but we believe Olsen is not ready yet to put down the crown.

In the final minutes of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda after being corrupted by the Darkhold finally realises how much terror and destruction she’s caused across the multiverse while trying to bring her kids back. So she decides to destroy the darkhold and the Scarlet Witch temple. Without the portal or the book, she decided to collapse the mountain on top of herself. In one of the scenes when Doctor Strange is asked about Wanda’s whereabouts, he shakes his head without saying anything, hinting that she didn’t make it out.

Olsen is yet to open up about Scarlet Witch’s ending in the Doctor Strange sequel, however, in a new interview with Empire Magazine, screenwriter Michael Waldron talked about the real status of Wanda in the MCU. Without revealing any details, he said, “She’s removing herself from the board… For now? Forever? We’ll see. I’d like to see her again…”

Wanda caused a lot of damage in Doctor Strange 2. From committing a series of crimes, to ruthlessly killing Earth-838’s Illuminati, it will be hard for MCU to bring her back to the Olsen we knew from WandaVision, at least without explanation. Still it’s not impossible. Doctor Strange 2 took place in a number of universes — in the multiverse. America Chavez travelled 73 universes before she found Strange in from Earth 616, the same one where Scarlet Witch is from. They go on to travel several more than 20 other universes.

For almost two decades, since Marvel published a coffee table book in 2008 titled Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z, Vol. 5, everyone believed the Marvel Cinematic Universe is “Earth-199999″, as designated in the book. With new universes making appearances in the MCU no characters are safe or ever dead. Scarlet may be dead, even if her corpse was not seen, the Wanda whose life she attempted to take over, she is still alive.

In a different universe possibly, Earth- 199999, Wanda aka Scarlet Witch is still around. She is not the only character whose fate is shrouded in uncertainty across the MCU. It’s up to the studio how they decide to bring her and other characters back, if ever.
