It’s almost been a year since Will Smith stirred controversy after he slapped Chris Rock on the stage of Oscars 2022 for making a joke aboit his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. Smith has since then been banned from the Academy and even publicly apologized for his behaviour, but Rock has seemingly been quite about it. The comedian has spoken about the slap in some of his standup shows and recently also revealed that he was asked to host Oscars 2023.
As per Arizona Republic, during his Sunday night show in Phoenix, Chris Rock revealed that he was asked to host next year’s Oscar ceremony, which he turned down. Rock said returning to host the award ceremony would be like asking Nicole Brown Simpson “to go back to the restaurant, ”where she left her eyeglasses before she was killed, refering to OJ Simpson’s murder trial.
However, netizens weren’t happy with Rock’s joke about Nicole Simpson’s murder and wrote, “Chris Rock’s humor is geared to a white audience. His jokes are mainly put downs of Black people. That’s what he’s comfortable with, and that’s why I feel no remorse in him getting served for disrespecting that Black man’s wife.” See reactions here.

Lol. The same white women who cheered Chris Rock when he made fun of a Black woman on global TV are today angry that he made fun of a dead white woman.
The monster you help raise will always come back to hurt you.

Chris Rock is doing nothing but showing us exactly why Will slapped the taste outta his mouth. Looks like Chris could use a couple more, honestly.

Chris Rock could’ve made this statement without using Nicole Brown Simpson name 🙄 https://t.co/UOkK3Jo0cH

The truth is that y’all didn’t care for the fact that a Black man stood up to the public humiliation of his Black wife.
Your misogynoir made you team Chris Rock, and now you gotta pretend you haven’t seen him make jokes about a white woman killed by violence.

I love Chris Rock and think the guy is funny. But, was putting Nicole Brown Simpson’s name and comedy in the same sentence necessary?
I can handle dark humor. But, damn. https://t.co/UWwXeITb8w
