Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who has been busy with the promotions of his upcoming movie ‘Dobaaraa’ starring Taapsee Pannu, shared his views on the box office failure of recently-released Bollywood movies. While the filmmaker claims GST to be the main reason, he even pointed out that South films are also facing a similar issue.
In a recent conversation with Bollywood Now, Kashyap said, “The main problem is that people do not have the money. You are paying GST on paneer. You are paying GST on your food. The calls for boycott, boycott Bollywood, boycott this and that, all those trend so you may get distracted.”
While the maverick filmmaker pointed out that South films too have taken the hit, films like ‘RRR’ and ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ have excelled because people had been waiting for them since a long time. “People wish to spend on a film when they are completely sure the film will be liked by all or, if people have been waiting for the film for years. ‘RRR’ for example, people have been waiting for SS Rajamouli’s film ever since Baahubali. ‘KGF 2’ was also a much-awaited film, ever since the success of KGF,” Kashyap added.
Talking about Kashyap’s upcoming movie ‘Dobaaraa’, the sci-fi mystery drama stars Taapsee, Pavail Gulati, Nassar and Rahul Bhat in significant roles and is slated to release in theatres on August 19, 2022.
