Anupam Kher is currently riding on a successful streak as both of his recent releases- Karthikeya 2 and The Kashmir Files– were superhits. The actor has spoken about the Boycott Bollywood trend running on social media and also called out how Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha was a victim of the negative trend. Kher was recently asked to comment on Anurag Kashyap’s statement that Hindi movies weren’t working because people didn’t have movies to buy tickets to because the economy is in a slump.
In an interview with RJ Siddharth Kannan, Anupam Kher dismissed Anurag Kashyap’s statement and said that he didn’t really care about the filmmakers’ opinion and that he was wrong. Kher said, “Why should I legitimise his statement by answering that question? It’s not important for me what he think, it’s not important what he believes. This country gives him complete freedom of speech, and he exercises that. But he has been proven wrong.”
Taking a sly dig at the filmmaker, he further added, “You can’t find plane tickets these days, you can’t buy tickets for good films because the halls are packed. Malls and five-star hotels are overflowing with people. The parking lots are full, roads are jammed with cars. What does he mean there’s no money? People are just spending intelligently.”
Anupam Kher’s attack on Bollywood has continued, he recently also revealed why he was missing from mainstream Bollywood movies. He shared that filmmakers like Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra and Sajid Nadiadwala had stopped offering him films, even though he has already worked with them in several movies.
