After Losing A $50 Million Defamation Suit Against Johnny Depp, Amber Heard Hires New Legal Team to Appeal Verdict

The month-long high-profile legal drama came to an end with Johnny Depp awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages while Amber Heard received $2 million in compensatory damages. The trial, which was broadcasted live across the world, revealed shocking events and tendencies of the Hollywood couple’s marriage.

The end of the trial was followed by Depp celebrating victory with millions of fans who supported him throughout the trial, sometimes turning detectives and attorneys to defend his honour and Amber Heard collecting fresh pieces of evidence to appeal the verdict. Along with gathering new documents required for the next legal trial, the Aquaman star has reportedly changed her legal team.

As per a report from EW, a spokesperson of Amber Heard announced the new counsel team, David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown of Ballard Spahr. They will lead while Ben Rottenborn will continue as co-counsel. On the other hand, Elaine Charlson Bredehoft will not be included in the trial.

‘When it comes to protecting the fundamental right of Freedom of Speech, we look at the jury’s decision—to paraphrase a famous quote—not ‘as the beginning of the end, but merely the end of the beginning. A different court warrants different representation, particularly as so much new evidence is now coming to light,” Heard’s spokesperson said.

Last month, Amber Heard announced that she will appeal the verdict reached in Johnny Depp’s defamation case by releasing a statement, ”We believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment. We are therefore appealing the verdict. While we realize today’s filing will ignite the Twitter bonfires, there are steps we need to take to ensure both fairness and justice.”

In response to Amber Heard’s appeal of the verdict, Depp’s team told EW, ”The jury listened to the extensive evidence presented during the six-week trial and came to a clear and unanimous verdict that the defendant herself defamed Mr. Depp in multiple instances. We remain confident in our case and that this verdict will stand”.
