With the release date of Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chillar’s period drama ‘Prithviraj’ inching closer, the film has ended up courting another controversy as the Akhil Bharatiya Veer Gurjar Mahasabha has raised concern over the portrayal of Prithviraj Chauhan.
According to various reports making rounds on the internet, the organisation states that they had met the makers of the film last year and discussed that Prithviraj Chauhan belonged to the Gurjar community (not Rajput), they have now issued a warning stating that they would not allow the film to release if the character portrayal was wrong.
On the other hand, Karni Sena, who had demanded a title change earlier (suggesting Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan as a new title), wants the makers to hold a special screening of the movie before its release. Talking about their demands, a Karni Sena member told ETimes, the makers have agreed to change the title, but also added, “If they don’t make the change and don’t hold a screening of the film, Prithviraj will not release in Rajasthan.”
Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, ‘Prithviraj’ will mark the Bollywood debut of former Miss World Manushi Chillar, who is all set to play Sanyogita in the upcoming period drama. Slated to release on June 3, 2022, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, the YRF project will also star Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Sakshi Tanwar, Manav Vij and Lalit Tiwari.
