Aamir Khan Wanted To Launch His Son Junaid In 'Laal Singh Chaddha' But Aditya Chopra Stopped Him; Here's Why

The long-gestating film, Laal Singh Chaddha is an ambitious project for Aamir Khan and his production house for over a few years now. After facing multiple delays and postponements in release, the film co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan will finally open in theatres on August 11, 2022. The hype around the venture is considerably high since the movie is the Hindi adaptation of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks.

But did you know Aamir Khan had almost passed up the role to his son Junaid? In an interview with TV9, the veteran actor revealed that he was ‘convinced’ that his son, who had just returned from pursuing his education overseas, could play Laal Singh Chaddha better than him. The 57-year-old narrated that he gave Advait Chandan, the director of the film, a couple of scenes to shoot to test his skills before handing him the responsibility.

The actor further said that the scenes were some of the toughest parts of the film. Seeing as his son had returned, Aamir Khan decided to use this opportunity to kill two birds with one stone by letting him act in the test and judge his skills as an actor too. However, the veteran actor revealed that he was completely mind blown when he saw his son on-screen perfectly embodying Laal Singh Chaddha.

Watching his son, the veteran was ‘convinced’ that Junaid should debut in Laal Singh Chaddha as he could never match the innocence that Junaid depicted in the test. To fortify his judgement, he showed the test to some of his industry friends including Rajkumar Hirani, Karan Johar and more, to make sure that he was not simply being biased as a father. ‘Out of 100, 98 people told me to go for it’, Aamir Khan said in the interview.

The veteran actor was convinced enough to let go of his beard that he was growing for six months as he was all set to put his son in the shoes of the iconic character. However, Aditya Chopra and the writer of Laal Singh Chaddha, Atul Kulkarni, were the only ones who rejected the idea. According to them, a newcomer would not be able to pull off a difficult film like. Due to its episodic nature, they believed it was better that Aamir Khan plays it. This made Aamir Khan change his mind about launching son Junaid in Laal Singh Chaddha.
